Artist’s Perspective
As a figurative artist, I’m drawn to the subtle narratives that unfold in everyday life. For this painting, I worked from a candid photograph, using acrylic’s versatility to build up texture and depth. My brushwork here is deliberately expressive—loose in some areas, precise in others—to evoke both vulnerability and resilience. The palette, dominated by blues, is meant to suggest both melancholy and hope, depending on the viewer’s own story.
The original image is from a photo shoot. I’d photographed the subject several times before. This time, she’d had a gig with her band the night before, and was both sleep-deprived and a tad “under the weather.”
I decided to go with a monochromatic structure to capture her mood.
