About the Artwork

“Moroccan Pastel” evokes the warmth, colour, and quiet elegance of a place where light, surface, and atmosphere all seem to linger a little longer. The painting suggests a moment suspended between memory and observation — a scene shaped as much by feeling as by sight. Soft tonal shifts and layered colour give the work a gentle, lived-in presence, while the composition invites the viewer to step into its calm, contemplative rhythm.

Artist’s Perspective

This piece draws on my interest in how colour can hold both place and mood at once. Rather than describing every detail literally, I wanted the painting to capture the impression of a Moroccan setting — its warmth, its visual richness, and its sense of everyday beauty. Working in acrylic, I built the image through layers, allowing the forms and colours to settle into a balanced, expressive whole. The result is less about strict realism and more about the emotion of being there.

The painting is based on a photo that was propped up on a shelf in an apartment we stayed at in Morocco. I was drawn to the image and photographed the photograph.

Collector Reflections

“This painting has a way of slowing the room down. The children’s curiosity, the soft movement of the water, and the quiet presence of the bird make it feel both peaceful and alive — the kind of work you keep noticing differently each time you pass by.”— Recent Collector
