What interested me most was not simply the swimmer, but the hesitation in the idea of swimming. That reluctance becomes the story. It transforms an ordinary action into something more human, and more relatable — a quiet moment of inner resistance made visible.
The person in the painting was not actually a swimmer. She was a dancer I photographed. I kept her features and pose, and changed her leotard to a swimsuit, adding a textured background.
